Aiming for a million, new orders placed to help the hospitals
Three generous checks of the amount of 100.00 € have been sent from three Turinese citizens to Specchio dei tempi. In addition to the 3556 donors have contributed to the fundraising. People from all over the world are reaching out as they can, in particular from Brazil, Turkey, Messico and the US.
Specchio dei tempi’s subscription in favor of the hospitals, schools and the elderly has reached 789,462 euros. These resources have been immediately invested in numerous projects such as helping the ERs and Reanimation units in the hospitals, to helping the elderly living difficult situations and cannot live their homes due to the high risk of infection, to the “Long- distance” project for the schools.
We are happy to state that we have a long list equipment that has been ordered or delivered. This includes: parametric monitors, pulmonary ultrasounds and cardiological ultrasounds. But also more common materials such as: stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers, thousands of masks, water resistant coats, gloves, caps and goggles. The Mauriziano Hospital, who has turned the Orthopedic unit into a Coronavirus Recovery department, is one of the structures that we are assisting with great care.
We are collaborating with the Institutions in order to coordinate and optimize all interventions. The school remains one of our focus points. All institutes of the region can have access to the “Long-distance” project that the Agnelli Foundation, together with Specchio, and a contribution of Reale Mutua have put together. The Schools are offered two free services: an e-learning platform to connect students and teachers, and 100 hours of tutoring (individual or in group). These can all be managed autonomously. All of the information is available on the Agnelli Foundation’s website following the #restoascuola. Together with the Cooperativa Crescere 1979, we have prepared over 120 sanitizing kits to deliver to the schools that participated to the initiative to guarantee clean classrooms and common areas for the students once the schools reopen. We’ve also extended our commitment to the elderly, by delivering shopping bags to over 1050 people in need in Turin. We are dealing with very fragile individuals. Through this initiative we can make sure that they stay at home and avoid the the risk of infection of the Covid-19 virus.
Reached over € 650k: more materials and equipment orders have been placed
WE’VE REACHED € 650 k. 3183 is the number of our supports that in these last few days have donated through the subscription dedicated to fight the Covid-19. This morning the fundraising has reached € 656.510 K. These resources, as we’ve always done since the beginning of our activity 65 years ago, have been immediately invested in concreted help. Yesterday we have concentrated our strengths on the Mauriziano Hospital. Two deals were closed to receive machineries for the Reanimation unite and the ER: paramedical monitors and advanced technology pulmonary ultrasound machines will help the doctors with the critic cases. This expense rounds up to €120,000. In addition, orders for the machineries for the Molinette hospitals have been placed too.
An amazing job was also done today in trying to find supplies for personal protection for the doctors and nurses that work in first line, that as we know have become extremely rare to find. We’ve managed to close several deals for supplies of high protection masks, gloves, visors and gels that will be arriving in the next few days. In the meantime today, we managed to deliver to the Mauriziano and the Amedeo di Savoia 500 water-repellent coats each.
In the social sphere we started to deliver the shopping bags that Specchio dei tempi is donating to 500 elderly people in Turin. These people are forced to face these days alone and thanks to this this initiative they can avoid leaving the house and reduce the risk of infection.
Specchio donates the first batch of medical equipment: the fundraising has reached over € 350k
Once again, in times of difficulty, our community affirms to have a generous heart: the fundraising has reached over 350,000 €. Just today we have donated to the Molinette Hospital 15 thermometers, 15 oximeters, 15 sphygmomanometers and 100 protective goggles

Soccer, music, cinema, fashion and magic. They all joined forces to help Specchio dei tempi. Once again, in times of difficulty, our community affirms to have a generous heart: the fundraising has reached over 350,000 €. Over 2000 people have donated in the last few days. the Coronavirus Emergency fund has now reach 350,000 €, anonymous donors have sent in checks for 100,000€. Companies and Foundation have also contributed with ten thousands euro donations, but what has touched us the most was the enormous amounts of small donations that go from 2€ upwards, that have arrived by the single donors. The way that the word has spread through the young generations that are supporting this project on the social media platforms is incredible. They are choosing to promote our initiative with their fan base and through the use of crowdfunding platforms with an incredible energy and enthusiasm. The amount of messages full of love and support for the doctors and nurses that have been shared on the social media is overwhelming. Professionals from different areas, that have always been close to Specchio dei tempi, are standing for our cause and helping us spreading the word and sending messages of encouragement to the entire country.
In the meantime we’ve concretely taken action by ordering from Diasorin two avantgarde machineries that are able to read the tampos and deliver the results in a very limited amount of time, this will allow to reduce the waiting timing during testing. We aim to deliver these to the Amedeo di Savoia Hospital in the next 48/76 hours. The medical district, La Città della Salute, of Turin has already received monitors and reanimation equipment that we’ve order. Just today we have donated to the Molinette Hospital 15 thermometers, 15 oximeters, 15 sphygmomanometers and 100 protective goggles.
Today, we’ll also start giving out shopping-bags with primary necessity goods to 500 elderly, and we’ll continue to hand out the sanitary kits for the schools that are part of the “Safe kids” project. The e-learning platforms of the #stayinschool project, in collaboration with the Agnelli Foundations and Reale Mutua, are up and running. This platform gives us the opportunity to both connect the teachers with their students, but also give 100 coupons for 100 hours of tutoring that can be managed by the institutes themselves. You can all be part of Specchio’s community by donating to the “Coronavirus Emergency – Fund 112”. Coronavirus Emergency: help Specchio dei tempi support Italian hospitals
For the last 65 years la Fondazione La Stampa – Specchio dei tempi has always worked in order to concretely help those in need. The Foundation, born from a column of La Stampa, has always intervened in different areas such as poverty, the elderly, education, healthcare and natural disasters. The ability of Specchio dei tempi to immediately take action is its major strength. In Italy we are in the middle of an emergency due to the Covid-19 that is rapidly spreading throughout the territory. Specchio dei tempi is present with a subscription to help our hospitals and our schools in this delicate time.
Last week we’ve took action with the “Safe kids” project, where we, together with Reale Foundation donated free sanitizing kits to the schools that requested them. Over than 100 primary and secondary schools (inside and outside Turin) have joined our initiative. The first kits have already been delivered with the help of La Cooperativa Crescere 1979. The next ones are scheduled to be sent out this week depending on the supplies, which have become very hard to find.
Today the project “Long-distance teaching” #stayinschool, was launched in collaboration with the Agnelli Foundation, Reale Mutua and La Stampa. The program offers the schools the possibility to freely access an online platform for e-learning, by Schoolr.
This gives the teachers the opportunity to conduct their lessons and the students not to miss out on school. The program also gives the possibility to have up to 100 hours of personalized tutoring classes that can be dedicated to help those students that have major difficulties. This platform is open to all schools and teachers, putting them in direct contact with their students.
When it comes to healthcare, together with Reale Mutua, we’ve decided to provide the Amedeo di Savoia Hospital in Turin, with avantgarde machineries from the United States. This will help them to accelerate the testing procedures and give out results in a fast a secure way.
All of our strengths go to the intensive care units. Specchio dei tempi is donating professional equipments to the Molinette, such as: lung ventilators, monitoring systems, multi-parameters modules, trays and furniture. Specchio dei tempi is giving € 100.000, on top of the incoming donations.
The president of the Foundation, Lodovico Passerin d’Entreves has explained that “we have always been used to take action in case of natural disasters, and this has to be considered a sanitary disasters. This is why we need to support our citizens and the ill by intervening to help the hospitals and the emergency structures. We also feel that it is important to help the schools, because they will have the task to bring the children’s lives back to normality, within all the security measures”.
